Changes to the Rules of Petanque

There are various changes to the rules, some of the more important ones will be listed below:

Article 5: Area of play and terrain rules

Petanque is played on any terrain. A playing area contains an indeterminate number of terrains defined by strings, the size of which must not interfere with the course of play. These strings marking separate terrains are not dead boule line except for those at the end and around the exterior.

Some competitions can be organised within time limits. These must always be played within a marked terrain. In this case, all lines marking that terrain are dead boule lines.

Article 7:

“For competitions intended for younger players shorter distance may be applied”.

Article 11:

If the jack comes to be moved by the wind or the slope of the terrain, for example or by the Umpire, a player or spectator accidentally treading on it, a boule or a jack coming from another game, an animal or any other mobile object, it is returned to it’s original position, provided this was marked.
